Diabetes Type 1

As I have already told you that I am diabetic type 1 , I want to tell you something about "my" disease. I suffer from diabetes mellitus type 1 since 2006. I was on holiday with my parents and was feeling very weak, listless and was always thirsty. Also I lost some weight and did not want to do anything. One day I was unable to get out of the bed and so my parents took me to the doctor. The doctor immediately called the emergency and one hour later I was in the hospital. I sufferd from heart rhythm deviations and was dehydrated.
The doctors diagnoes diabetes mellius type 1 which was a really shock for my whole family. Type 1 diabetes mellitus happens when the part of the pancreas that makes insulin is destroyed by that person’s ownimmune system. When the pancreas does not make insulin, glucose – sugar – in the blood cannot get into the parts of the body that need sugar to live. In order to live, a person with Type 1 diabetes must take insulin for the rest of their life. They need to check their blood sugar level on a regular basis. I was in the hospital for 2 weeks and finally I was discharged. Today I am well-adjusted with this disease- of course sometimes I wish I would not suffer from diabetes but it already is a part of me and my body :)
